Chapter 21: No More Drama

Three days later, I was still floating on a cloud. Before he left for the airport this morning, Tristan had said those three magical words again. Nothing could bring me down from my high. Even Eva’s unexpected wardrobe malfunction at her friend’s movie premier did nothing to damper my mood. Even Delilah’s bad mood couldn’t stop me from smiling while we were out shopping.

Tres Belle is one of my favorite boutiques in Los Angeles. I’ve been coming here for years to find gorgeous, one of a kind looks for my clients. I can basically get anything I need from this store because the owner, Raquel, knows that my clients will want to keep anything that I borrow.

“Earth to Sunny!” Delilah pushed my shoulder trying to get my attention.

“What? Were you saying something?”

“Yes! Why are you ignoring me?”

“I’m not ignoring you, Delilah. I’m shopping. What did you say?”

Delilah glanced around the shop before answering. “I know you don’t want to, but you have to talk to my brother.”

“No, I don’t,” I replied as I casually flipped through a rack of vintage dresses. “I already told you to tell him that I don’t care about him taking Summer home with you guys for Christmas. Why haven’t you told him yet?”

“Because I’m not the middle man in this twisted drama you and Aiden are starring in. Besides,” Delilah paused. “We want you to come too.”

My loud burst of laughter caught the attention of a salesgirl. Before she rushed over to offer her assistance, I waved her away.

“Absolutely not.”

“Why not? The whole family is going to be there. Like it or not, Sunny Rain, you are family. Please,” Delilah begged.

“Stop begging. You are embarrassing me. I’m not going. I’m spending Christmas in Atlanta with my family. You, your niece, and your brother are going to spend Christmas in Mt. Vernon with yours. End of story.”

While Delilah pouted like a two-year-old, I pulled a purple and black crushed velvet jumpsuit off the rack and held it in front of Delilah’s sad eyes. The jumpsuit was just the right amount of classic tacky that Eva seemed to love.

“What do you think about this for Eva’s New Year’s Eve performance?”

“I don’t think the zipper will go over her boobs,” Delilah replied. “But if we can get it to stay up halfway, it might work.”

I draped the jumpsuit over the growing pile of clothes in Delilah’s arms and checked my phone for the time. Two weeks before New Year’s Eve and our schedule is jammed packed. I don’t know how we are going to manage to take any time off for Christmas but we have to. Both of our families will be inconsolable if we don’t visit.

With three more text messages from Jade, it seems like every musician I’ve ever worked for just found out that they have a New Year’s Eve performance, and they needed me yesterday. I don’t understand it. When I worked for Aiden, Roxy made sure that I had his NYE look perfected by the end of November just in case he got invited to perform somewhere.
